Hospitals are the place to go for serious medical care. Typically, the care is followed by the question, “Would you like to stay a day or two for observation, or leave now?” In a dementia such as Alzheimer’s, what’s the right thing to do?
Dementia does not rob someone of their dignity. It’s our reaction to them that does.
People with Alzheimer’s are often prescribed drugs for other conditions — including diabetes or high blood pressure — at the same doses as those without dementia. That practice might need to be reexamined.
